”The glory of God is [revealed in] man fully alive.” – Saint Irenaeus
So God, how might I become fully alive today, and glorify You?
You need something different…
When we become students of the supernatural lifestyle of Jesus, we may expect God to put us in situations where we are to step out in faith and use gifts of power and such, working miracles of physical healing for instance. And I thought that was what God was setting me of for today.
I was dropping off sandwiches at the homeless shelter and got to talking with the man who works there. For a moment, I had the a sense this man would mention physical pain and God wanted me to do something that (for now) makes me very uncomfortable — praying for physical healing.
But the man kept talking and he didn’t mention anything like that, just life inconveniences that had happened to him this week; and I realized, He just needed someone to listen.
How many of the pains in our lives can be remedied by simply listening?
It only hit me now that God graciously allowed me to operate in a gift I am comfortable with, which is simple listening and presence.
And I’m realizing, that’s all He really wants from me. He just wants to talk to me.
And I don’t think He has anything heavy to say, really. He just wants me to know that He’s there.
Heavenly Father, why do I avoid conversation with You? Help me to slow down and bask in Your Presence.
The only way we can “waste time” is by doing things that, being outside of His perfect will, are of no real use for our salvation and the salvation of others. We are saved by the sacrifice of Jesus, and with that, it is the daily sanctification of our souls that we must focus on.
Make no mistake — we cannot make ourselves holy. It is the will of the Father, the Blood of the Lamb, and the Presence of the Spirit that make us holy.
Submit and be docile to Our Father in Heaven.
Holy Spirit, help me to only move in You, and by You, today.
